1/8" downcut bits
1/8" downcut bits
Where does everyone source their 1/8" shank downcut bits? Ive been buying mine from Stewmac but Im sure there are cheaper bits on the market.

Re: 1/8" downcut bits
I gave up on Stewmacs bits years ago. Way too expensive for what they are. Can bring a tear to your eye when you break a few of the fine ones in one job.
I get mine from the drill man as Jeremy posted, or out of China from various eBay sellers. The last 1.0mm solid carbide ones were just $1.25 each postage included. So I bought 10 of them.

Hey Martin.
Or on the other end of the scale -

Far from the cheapest, but superb quality. Made in USA.
They seriously know their stuff...

Re: 1/8" downcut bits
I've bought at least thirty bits from www.drillbitsunlimited.com and am very happy with the quality.
Re: 1/8" downcut bits
With the end mills is there any great advantage going for a 3 or 4 flute mill over a 2 flute??

Re: 1/8" downcut bits
It has to do with feeds and speeds to a great extent. You want to get the heat out of the material in chips. Not holding in in the work and the cutter. A huge study in machining that will make your head hurt.
But also in the fine bits there is more meat to the core of the bit if it has more flutes. It might help with flex and breakage issues.
For what it's worth, I use a lot of the 4 flute cutters in the very small sizes.
