Opinion's needed Huon back & sides

Post by EricDownunder » Mon May 11, 2015 6:50 pm

How would Huon pine work for back and sides on a L5? I have a nice piece cut from a very old log that was raised from the depths of a lake and it's estimated age is around 3000 year's, it is heavy and quite hard unlike other Huon pine I have handled, not sure of it's wax content at this age.
Keep Smiling,
Eric Smith

Hi Eric

I built an all Huon Pine Hawaiian Lap Slide a few years back and it's been with a touring musician who has been using it almost nightly for the last 18 months.

It sounds great.

Sure it'll have a few more dents in it than something made of Blackwood or other harder timbers. Won't hurt it though.

Regards
Bob, Geelong
