Anyone know how the scallops in picture 5 * (from the top) are achieved? Are they solid blocks of timber or are they flat pieces bent and magically glued into position? :-P

*it has no bridge, strings or machine heads

https://youtu.be/mZABWmVAj_4 These ukes seem to have a related type of scallop. I'm interested in how these are made if anyone knows. They are dasilva ukes http://www.dreamukes.com/dasilva-ukulele-co/

Yes they start life as a solid block and are shaped, also quite often material is removed from the back/inside to reduce weight. Once glued in, veneers are glued on that match the binding wood.
I've yet to include any 'scoops' on my builds but Jeffery Yong (JJ Model username here) is a bit of an expert at them viewtopic.php?t=5522. Maybe do a search on the forum for his builds or a PM (although he hasn't been here for a while) and I'm sure I've seen youtube clips of people showing how they achieve the look so maybe a search on there?
In fact here's one Robbie O'Brien prepared earlier, it's an arm bevel but the principle is the same for the neck scoops

Maybe it's just me but everytime I look at those guitars I'm reminded of a good mate who had a dice with cancer a few years back and and ended up having half his right jaw chopped out... :?
