New Year introductions

Hello everyone,

I though the new year might be a good opportunity for new members like myself who haven't done so (like myself) to introduce themselves! Good opportunity for lurkers to come out of the woodwork and say hello too!

So me first:
I'm Rob, from Sydney. I work with orchestras for a profession (read: cat herding). Currently working on my first built with Martin Taylor up at the central coast - I'm into historical instruments, and Martin is very patiently guiding me through building an 1830s Lacote. Hope to post some build pics of that when I finish. Last year went on Trevor's modal tuning course which was enlightening and I can highly recommend to everyone.
I'm becoming a bit of a timber hoarder in the meantime...

Well, I'm not a new member, but I don't get here enough. I've taken part in a few discussions about Trevor's book (mainly being a pain in the %#^ about a typo in the theory part of the 4-DOF model that I stand by). I have been too busy with my real job lately to keep up with luthin' and I apologize to folks who have sent me real questions about Matlab, G/G theory and such that I haven't gotten around to responding to. Maybe better this year.

Hi everyone is like to introduce myself and take a chance to say hello. My name is Russell I live in cairns and am new to this forum. I've never built an instrument before but have wanted to for a long time. I have some time on my hands at the moment so I guess there's no time like the present to take the plunge. I hope I am able to one day be able to contribute to this forum and do it well. Good to be here.

Welcome to the new members and feel free to chip in on any topic Russell, just because you haven't built before doesn't mean you haven't any useful information that can't be used! And Rob, great that you have somebody of Martin's pedigree to guide you through your first build, I think I could of reduced the amount of kindling I had on my first few builds if I'd had somebody to walk me through it.

Hi all, long time reader, new member Paul from Gosnells here.
Been teching and repairing for 20 years, recently built a few rough electrics.
Just finished a Xmas holiday build, thought I needed a Banjo Bass!
Used a piccolo snare, jarrah support spar, and a dodgy old neck I had laying around.
Love it! Next I'll add a piezo and preamp when I can be bothered.
Looking for parts to build a few more now...
