7 string classical - video

Post by Robbie O'Brien » Wed Sep 24, 2014 2:43 am

On a recent trip to Brazil I took one of my seven string classical guitars. This is a very popular instrument in Brazil used in the Chorinho genre. Here is a video of Brazilian guitarist and composer, Euclides Marques, playing a Brazilian classic, Lamentos do Morro, on one of my 7 string classical guitars. Check out that right hand technique! Enjoy!

He's not bad is he?!  Brilliant player and obviously has a mastery of the 7 string style.
I love the nice rich full sound of the bottom end there Robbie, I presume it's strung with an extra bass string tuned to a low B? & is that a fixed tornavoz arrangement I can spy through the soundhole?
"Jesus Loves You."
Nice to hear in church but not in a Mexican prison.

Thanks Nick. In Brazil the low bass string (7th string) is tuned to either a B or C depending on the repertoire. C is for pop type stuff like what you see in the video and B for the more classical repertoire.
Yes, that is a version of a tornavoz in the soundhole. No, I did not come up with it but have used it on many guitars with good success. Antonio Tessarin in Brazil showed this to me after Paul Galbraith talked about it and seeing it on some guitars by Tobias Braun.

Thanks Martin,

I don't remember taking pics of this one as I built it.
