Bit of a windfall, I think?

Post by Taffy Evans » Thu Aug 07, 2014 1:52 pm

Hi Guy's
I was browsing through the lists of some Australian suppliers and found listed in the timber section Australian Cooktown Ironwood bridge blanks, at nearly $20.00 each plus freight. I already have some [but cant remember how I came by it] so went out to the workshop to see how much I had. I had already cut it into bridge blanks and there was 22 in all, Wow! $440 worth of bridge timber.

I had used it for one bridge in the past and thought it might be too dense and heavy, but the guitar it was on sounded great and I always wondered if it would have sounded better with a rosewood bridge. Anyway I was looking at ways to make lighter bridges using it but never finished the project, now I might have to revisit the project.

The photo's show's the blanks catching the sunlight.
Cheers

$20 is a bit rich for such a small quantity, it's probably not even worth than per lineal meter as inch board

... which adds 5$ of value. Still not tempted to sell them off?

If you don't want to use them as bridge blanks you can cut them into two or three strips and sell them as pen turning blanks, selling off each one of these at the price of one bridge blank!

Nice Markus :cl . Actually each blank is for two bridges so could be used for Uke or mandolin finger boards
