A bit of an update, i still have a way to go but i can see the finish line, this has been strung for about four weeks and played a couple of times, experts opinion,,, sounds pretty good for an el/cheapo. Anyways it's stood up to the test and no signs of any failure of the repair so i've begun the finishing process, fixed and filled the major dings and cracks and got three good coats of primer filler on it, a light rub and it'll be ready for a few coats of acrylic gloss.
Cheers
Rod.

Setup hint: Put a lightweight composite tailpiece on it with a synthetic tailgut. Much better for pizz IMO.
And, the less paint the better.

Re: Double bass resto/repair
I started on this repair in mid November, three and a half months and it's finished, so glad to get it out of my shop, it just sooooo big and takes up so much room.
Cheers,,

Anyways my repair work seems to be up to the job, a couple of bassists having played it and have given it the thumbs up so much so one has bought it.I've learned a valuable lesson from this little project though and that is,,, if you're set up to build guitars don't bring home a stray bass it just doesn't fit the workshop!! Cheers,,

Couldn't agree more. I did a repair to one about 6 years ago and just couldn't believe how large they are and inadequate my workshop and equipment was to deal with it.
I'm rather surprised at the color and how much I like it. Nice job.

Looks good Rod, a massive repair no doubt. May I ask what type of strings you used?

Yes Gary, they're kevlar core nylon outer (Weed Whackers ) virtually unbreakable and preferred by some rockabilly bassists.
