Belt sanders, any preference
Hare and Forbes have a Hafco belt sander on special at the moment,, http://www.machineryhouse.com.au/L112 just wondering if anyone has any experience with this model/make/ brand , where does it sit in the quality stakes when compared to Carbatec, Jet,
Informed opinion will be gratefully received.
Cheers,,

I have one of those, and they really are good, it gets used daily, and I've had it for quite a few years now
Re: Belt sanders, any preference
The sander you have linked to is called an Edge sander, I have the bench mounted belt sander type where the belt is a bit shorter and cannot be adjusted at angles.
If I had the budget at the time I would much prefer the edge sander, but it is overkill just for guitar building. I'd still like the edge sander though, would be handy at times.

If you're not already using a belt sander, you'll wonder how you lived without one.

Picked it up yesterday, assembled it but still need to get a couple of components to connect it up to the dust extractor.

Nice and new,
These units run pretty straight and true as well, the backing plate is hard wearing as well, the dust extraction side however is pretty useless
The lever for kicking it over to a flat top sander is good as well, we have our fretboard radius jig, designed to swing over the belt when in the layed down position
Nice to see it with its attachments as well, we threw them away after about the first week, not really practicle for what we use it for, we just kept the end attachment for grinding on the radius
