Hey everyone,

Just wondering if anyone has delt with a company called The Wood Well from Washington USA. The specialise in flame and quilt maple. I have sent a few emails to them over the last few weeks but have recieved zero replies. Are they worth chasing up or am I wasting my time?

Please note I'm not meaning to put them down at all. I am just explaining my situation

I have not used them, but our state is full of huge maples. They are located in an area near the Olympic mountains. It used to be a huge logging area.

The Wood Well also known as Well Bay Woods is a small family business specialising in figured big leaf maple tops. Primariliy maple tops for Les Paul type guitars.
They are a very reputable business. I deal with them regularly.(fpr the past 8 years)

Yes I have dealt with them on several occasions.

I have never had success via email, something about their crappy servers and not receiving emails. Every purchase I've made has been over the phone.

I bought a quilt maple B+S set from them recently - ordered by email. Beautiful wood! Shipping to the UK wasn't too unreasonable either.

i thought they looked like a family business which in m experience (generally) means good service. i wouldnt have thought they where stuffing me around on purpose.

I wonder why im having so much trouble via email. Ill send one more and then if i get nothing back ill phone them.

Looks like they have some really nice stuff so i think it will be worth it would anybody here have a clue at what freight to australia would be for a carve top billet?

Last order I placed with them was for three neck blanks. Cost just under a grand including freight.

Good people, Know their wood, and also sell Billets always worth a look. you can actually see the boards you are buying on the web site. I live in Washington I'll have to check out the place you found it's always nice to see more wood.

Sorry, Next time I'm in there I'll talk to them about it. I've been buying from their bargain bins where the real deals are. The best buys for you would be billets as their sets are fairly high priced for the nice stuff. I hope I can help with it they have a lot of nice wood seasoned properly.

Well, not really, as to freight a slab internationally could cost one or two thousand dollars as it'd be cubed weight. I've never got a quote, but I know buying small pieces is several hundred dollars, so big pieces would be big dollars in just freight alone.

Also looking at their site, they ship via UPS, which for us Aussies is pretty much a "stay away from that place" flag, as UPS seems to charge three, four times what USPS charges.

I have been speaking to Cyndi from Goby woods and she says they use USPS for international postage. I have been using the USPS postage calculator to check prices. About $180 for express postage for about 3 billets. I dont buy alot of wood overseas but i feel like that is pretty reasonable? (correct me if im wrong)

If they're willing to do that, then yeah, that's about the norm price.

Their website states they use UPS. Maybe they should add some international info to their website.

I'll try to get some time either friday or saturday to call them or go there and see what they say. It's kind of interesting to me how in the states we want the woods that you have and visa versa. I love walnut, but blackwood is beautiful and some of your other woods are really nice too. I haven't built with maple but, when I see the right set I'll try it. One of our other woods that is nice is Oregon Myrtel or Bay tree. Its beautiful wood with good tone a bit harder to find a good set though.
