cocobolo and cites

Post by scuffle » Sat Apr 05, 2014 10:31 pm

hey guys,

I have just been lusting over some timber from an american supplier and i noticed that they list they cant ship cocobolo outside USA because of CITES. How long has this been going on for?

Also is there anywhere in Australia that we can get cocobolo for fingerboards? I REALLY wanted to get some for a project and i was so disappointed when I read I can't import it :(

I bought a few boards of Coco just before Xmas and had no trouble. USA to Australia and normal USPS post.

What fingerboard dimensions do you need, I may be able to help you out.

I have a nice coco board there but it's just a tiny bit too small for my builds. Send me a PM

Cocobolo (Dalbergia retusa)was listed on CITES Appendix II on 12/6/13. Import/export of logs, sawn wood, veneer sheets and plywood after that date is illegal if not accompanied by the relevant CITES documentation and permits. You might get away with it, but then again you might get caught, lose the wood and get fined.
