Wood Rasp

Post by vandenboom » Sat Feb 01, 2014 7:19 pm

A tool I reckon I could get much more benefit from is a wood rasp, but I only have one and I suspect it's shabby quality.
So I would like to get a couple and make an effort to use them.

Had a look at Carbatec but the range is somewhat overwhelming.

Would appreciate some direction from experienced rasp users out there re the "Rocket" brand or good alternative, and suggest a couple of sizes/courseness that cover our guitar building needs,
Thanks. Frank.

Have 2 of Noel Liogiers rasps http://www.liogier-france.fr/?lang=en/ and have found them to be really excellent rasps.

After making the move from bunnings style rasps over to the Stewmac dragon Rasp I cannot recommend them enough. It's like moving from a toy to a weapon.

I'd LOVE to own a set of the Logiers but the price is way up there.

Thanks all for your comments on this. I think I will try the large coarse & fine Dragon combo from Stewmac to get started, unless someone tells me the smaller versions are adequate for what we do.
thanks again. Frank

Thank you all for your very kind comments.
I saw this thread and dare to jump in, sorry if it feels intrusive.
I just want to share the following 2 videos (about how rasps are made and an example of how to use them) that might interest some of you, and in order to answer to any questions - even the simplier ones - you might have about rasps.

Thank you,

Noel
