My first public showing of guitars

Post by Allen » Sun Apr 27, 2008 2:18 pm

I just got back from my first public showing of some of my guitars. It's an arts themed market held in the Cairns Botanic Gardens once a month during the dry season.

I showed the 2 Qld. Walnut PJ's and the Cypress OOO today. There were at least 6, (I lost count with all the people looking and asking questions), that were very capable players that asked to play them.

Everyone of them picked the Australian Red Cedar PJ as their favorite sound. They liked the Engelman, and I think it would have faired better if it hadn't been there with the Cedar topped one. The sheer beauty of the Australian Cedar I'm sure had some influence as it was the one that everyone wanted to try first.

The Cypress OOO also did very well, but it being a very visually striking guitar I think had a factor as it was the second one that everyone wanted to try.

The comments from people that I would think are serious buyers were about pickups. As none of my guitars have them, it looks like the market that will be willing to drop that much cash on a handmade instrument is going to be wanting a pickup installed.

The show was really gratifying as I didn't get much of a chance to take a break. I ended up talking to people for 6 hours straight, and had 50 business cards go out.

Now off to the shed to get cracking on the next one.

Sounds like you had a great day Allen.

I reckon one of the best things about shows like this is getting player feedback on your instruments.

Well I can vouch that Allen's acoustic guitars are first class having had the privelage of being able to play them this weekend. I'm very pleased you had some interest in the instruments. The Aussie Cedar 000 sure is a spectacular looking and sounding guitar. I also liked the tone of the Redwood topped guitar too.

Good luck.

Cheers

Alan

Allen, I know you have shown the guitars in other threads, but maybe you could post some shots of the beauty pageant contestants in this thread.

Allen, they are beautiful. Sweetie and I are in agreement. We want the walnut~cedar to come live at our house. Barring that, I'll have to get my hands on some of that cedar.
