I have ordered from Stewmac many times (using DHL). As long as it is under $1000 I have never had a problem.

You wouldn't get charged custom fees on something so far below the $1000 line. One of my stew mac purchases was about $790 and that was fine, no hidden fees.

I also bought a StewMac vice, about two years ago, using DHL for delivery. All up, the cost was around A$240. There were no customs or other charges. What's more I ordered it at about 5.30 p.m. on a Saturday, and the delivery courier was knocking on my door in Hobart at 10 a.m. the following Tuesday.

Tip: If you order late Thursday Night or before 11am on Friday, most of the time you'll get it on the Monday if you go with DHL (3-5 days)

A few of us picked up these vices for a steal a few years back. The seller (Lee Valley?) had stuffed up on the price. They realised same but honoured the lower advertised price and I'm sure they lost a bundle on the deal.

No problems with the link. The vice in your link would work for small stuff but the pattern makers vice is designed to hold quite large items in the jaws and the advantage of this type of vice is it can hold odd shaped items as the jaws rotate. I have a parrot vice but it doesn't get half as much use as my pattern makers vice.

Looks pretty rough...for that price I'd expect a better finish on the outside. Even the cheapest pattern makers vices have a coat of pain slapped on them.

Indeed, a coat of pain is the minimum you normally can expect from a cheap tool, although some prefer plain pain! :wh
