Just looking for a bit of advice or maybe recommendation here. I decided to lash out and treat myself to a really nice #7 jointer, the two makes i'm looking at are Vertas low angle bevel up, and the Leigh Neilson, not much in the dollars, just looking for your opinions on the best tool for the job and that being jointing arch top plates, and neck laminations.I do already have a Leigh Neilson tiny violin makers plane and am impressed with it's quality so i'm already leaning that way, equally i know Veritas are excellent tools,, Help!!
Rod.
Like I said before the crash, " Hit the bloody thing, it won't hit ya back
Ive got a Veritas jointer and I cant fault it. Ive also got a few LN planes in my fleet. In terms of value for money I'd go for Veritas but if price isn't a factor I'd go LN.
Bevel up planes can be used both low and high angle, which is handy.
I have a Clifton #7 which has its many uses, but I usually joint with my Veritas bevel up jack. The Veritas came flat and stays flat, whereas I've had to flatten the Clifton a couple of times and it's still moving. The Veritas will joint the top edge of sides accurately, so no need to worry about that aspect if you end up considering a smaller, lighter plane. Makes the choice wider not easier!
