Group Buy Maybe

Post by Tod Gilding » Wed Aug 14, 2013 9:23 am

I would be interested in a Group buy of Evo Gold fret wire from Jescar

I believe this was done years ago but is any one interested in going around again for a pound or two ?

Just Gold Evo, or any of their wire? I'd need 10 lbs of assorted sizes.

I Don't see any reason why not Perry. will put you down for 10lb assorted. I have been in contact with Jeff Silver from Jaycar and pricing will depend on quantity so I'm just after approx quantities at the moment I can then work out delivery charges and see if it is worthwhile. how much are you after Dave ?

Count me in for a mixed lot, too.

I have never bought by the pound. How much does a pund do?

Hi Nick,
Personally I use the EVO Gold FW 43080 This has a crown width 2.02mm crown height 1.09mm Tang 1.27mm, I think this is fairly common for Acoustic Guitars.
A Pound of this wire equals 69.7 feet so roughly 12 guitars ( I Think ) maybe more.

Hi Tod,

I'm interested in a pound. Do they do the 0.23 Stew Mac tang width?

Cheers

Hi Alan, I believe that Jescar does do that size wire but only with some of the different types of wire, you can check it out here http://www.jescar.com/fretwire.html

Todd,

A group buy happened a while ago and one thing learned was that you're best keeping the order to as small a number of different sizes as possible. Keep the order simple :)

In for a 'pound' please, but it messes with me this imperial stuff. I'll never, ever figure scale lengths ie measuring in percents (decimals) of inches (imperial) :?

What is a pound worth? I don't know if I'll ever use it all....

No one I've spoken to about making a guitar for has asked for gold fittings, so I don't want it just sitting around.....I might be out.....

Hi Tod,

I did the last one and learnt a few things along the way. KISS and ensure your specs are robust are the two main ones. I'll PM a phone number if you want to discuss it. Great fretwire and a great company to deal with BTW, I still have a heap Im working my way through.

Nick...from what I understand its not just about the colour....the EVO wire is a special alloy that wears particularly well but it still easy to work with like normal fret wire...

Hi Nick, Yes the Woodrat is 100% correct as usual, this wire is made from copper, tin, iron and titanium (chemical composition CuSn15Fe1Ti0.1) and is a lot harder than normal wire but still easy to work with.

Now that the au $ is going South ,it is costing about $30inc shipping to fret 1 Guitar hence the group buy, Jescar does almost all wire sizes and compositions so you may find what you prefer here. http://www.jescar.com/

Thanks Sebastiaan, I will be calling you shortly.

Hey Tod, If I can get a pound in the same size you use in Nickel Silver, I'm in.

If it's too much trouble, that's OK, too.....See how you go at the end, and let me know here if you're happy to include my bit.

Cheers, mate.

will see what I can do Nick.

Just looking at the posts we have 27LB in 24hrs that's not a bad size order, also there could be more interested. I will contact Jescar and see what we can do, but I may not get a reply until Monday now but we will see.

GST is going to be a problem, as I see it Imports need to be under $1000 inc shipping costs.

I also need to talk to Sebastian tomorrow and get his advice. Stay Tuned.

Tod,

Please count me in for 2 pounds of FW43080-EVO and 1 pound of FW43080-S.

That's not a problem. Just split the order, maybe a week or so apart. I suspect double shipping will be less than the GST/brokerage charges/etc. etc.
