Given that we'll be buying more than ten sets, the price difference in cost between the classical and steel string sizes will be 2 bucks.
I'd be buying the larger size and using any excess for bridge plates or headstock overlays etc.
Actually at that price I'd cut up the lot for bridge plates.
But they'd also be good for double sides or for prototyping new models
I doubt that you'd be able specify what you wanted at these prices Alan.
There's an article on the website on staining the lighter stuff so you wouldn't see the difference apart from the wider grain which should look pretty good with a light stain on it..

Size should be same as for their standard IRW sets. Specs for steel string sized IRW Backs as follows:joel wrote:I'm in! Been waiting for a while for this.
What are the dimensions for SS or CL? Can't find it on that page.
Reckon, I'd be good for 2 or 3 sets.
"Book-matched, 2-piece Indian rosewood back set for steel string guitar. Each piece is usually at least 8.25 inches wide and 22 inches long."

I'm not sure that we'll be able to specify forest or plantation Alan.
From what they say on the website some of the forest backs are not well matched with the sides so the plantation may well be the better option.
We'll wait to see how much interest we get and I'll phone them to get the skinny on what is available and whether we can specify what we want.

Thanks Bob,
I like the idea of having a stash for experiments. And I am feeling motivated by the article in the latest acoutic guitar mag titled the future of tone wood.
I could easily get 10 or even 20. Unless we can get a decent further discount it may be worth anyone wanting 10+ to order their own. Save reposting hassles for some lucky coordinator.
What do other people think? Bob?

I'd certainly be in for 10 sets.
You know, if we got enough interest, there might be a possible upgrade in quality, for the same price. They do advertise elsewhere on their site that they can do large orders of EIR for a considerable discount. Even have it drop shipped from their mills in India. I don't know how large that is though.

I have interest from another person outside the forum for another 20 sets
so if we push the numbers up we may be able to get some bargaining power for either a quality upgrade or price reduction.
If I have some indication of numbers by Sunday I'll call them next Tuesday (which'll be Monday in the States) and see what I can negotiate.
This is the grade of wood that Allied are selling to major factories in the States so while it is not top of the range, it's certainly not crap either.

I've been giving your excellent suggestion a bit if thought.
If we do bring in over 100 sets it MAY flag Customs because it certainly is a commercial quantity and they will duty anything over $1000. Which would negate any savings.
And yes it is a lot of work to get that many sets packed up and shipped around the country.
We may be better off doing this on a regional basis.
If Allan and Ozziebluesman want 14 sets we get those delivered directly to Queensland.
Kim Strode wants a couple of sets so I'll get them delivered to me and drop them off next time I'm in Melbourne.
Steve, Joel, Dominic and Craig are NSW/ACT so we work out a distribution there.
I can still collect funds and pay Allied so it looks like a bulk deal and provide them with quantities and addresses.
They would have to split the orders anway as there would be a maximum weight that USPS ship per parcel.
And as you say Dom, if you are getting 10+ you are getting value from the postage.
Any thoughts gents?
