Tru-Oil

Hi ,
Im just enquiring if anyone has actually used truoil to finish an acoustic guitar
I imagine it would be fine for an electric ,I recently finished a guitar and used truoil on the neck which came up great the rest was french polished ,I presume it wouldnt be suitable for the top but maybe the back and sides?

I'm in the middle of Tru Oiling an acoustic at the moment. Top, back, sides, neck, well all of it, and am really enjoying the ease of application as well as the resultant finish..

These are after around 8 coats.

I bought a small bottle and it's about half gone. I'm thinking it's got enough build on it and will add a few more, then burnish the top to a higher gloss, while leaving the back and sides alone.

+1 on searching. Plenty of info. Also search you tube for deadedith and Robbie O'Brien for tru-oil finish. Both are informative...

I've done two acoustics all over with Tru-Oil and it worked well. It is certainly easy to apply. You will find lots of information on its use as a guitar finish if you search the forum here, and Google elsewhere. Robbie O'Brien's video will get you started. If you use it in high humidity it can stay a bit sticky for a while but hardens up in a day or so. If RH is low it is pretty fast to dry and you can build up multiple coats quite quickly.

the video was very informative
when I did my neck I just used the cotton balls and let dry and then sanded and did the same over and it came out fine although the build was a bit heavy therefore my thinking that it wouldnt be suitable for a top,as it may effect the tone.
the way its done on the video is almost like a simpler version of french polishing without the spiriting off .
