Query on mic preamp settings

Post by kiwigeo » Thu Aug 02, 2012 9:23 pm

Ive got an SMProaudio XMP1 mic preamp that has a switch for 12volt phantom power. Theres no annotation on the unit to show on or off position and nothing in the manual.

Anyone know which way is on/off for the phantom power switch?

I dont know which is on or off but if you have a multimeter or volt meter it is easy to tell.

On you multi meter set it to volts dc and touch pin 2 and 3 and flick the switch with it plugged in and turned on.

If you are using it with a condenser mic which needs phantom power, the on position will be when the mic works. If your mic doesn't need phantom power it doesn't matter which position the switch is.
