Neck Reinforcement

Post by ozziebluesman » Sat Apr 21, 2012 9:35 pm

I'm building the neck for another Benedetto style archtop. The previous archie build I used a one piece neck with no reinforcement. This one is five pieces laminated using Queensland Maple and Blackwood in the inner sandwich. I'm about to cut the channel for the truss rod and I was going to use two 3 x 8mm carbon fibre strips for reinforcement.

My question is do you run the carbon fibre into the fingerboard extension and if so, how far?

Cheers

Definitely into the extension Alan. I run mine in about 2 1/2". (Also helps with alignment during glueup.)
