Craig, jealousy is an ugly emotion. Makes people say all kinds of things that they don't mean.

Now, I'm not saying that's the case here, but it could be. Its hard to weed out the sarcasm with you guys.

Thanks for the welcome home. :D

It's all in fun I can assure you Lillian. We all love a laugh. The ribbing between Kiwis and Aussies has always been around as far as I know , but when it comes to the crunch we're very close mates.

I'm looking forward to seeing what young Nick is going to deliver with this one .His builds never fail to attract a lot of interest. A very innovative builder.,,,,,,,,,, Should be helpful for the Aussie builders

No competition for you Allen, your fit & finish just puts your stuff in a different league!

At this stage the 12 string is clearly out in front Lillian, so looks like I'm in the market for a heating blanket to get that Ziricote around a few bends without cracking.

Not so sure about the young bit Craig  but I'll give it some serious thought over the next couple of weeks to come up with something 'different' for you

Ok I admit i cheated and tried to vote twice! (didn't work of course  )

But had another thought about voting for option 'C' , which instead of telling Nick what to build involves usurping an idea borrowed from some other forum..i

A build along to the winning ballot choice.

Well bugger me (said the choirboy accidently within earshot of a priest  !) it's funny how things work out some times. I'd just ordered a heating blanket off of Tim at the weekend, in anticipation of bending a set of Ziricote sides. I was thinking of getting a controller also from another site then remembered Allen's method of just turning it on & off & thought that sounds like me, for the time being! Then today along comes one of our PHD students with a trolley load of stuff he'd collected during a cleanup in his lab, wanted to know whether to toss it or would it "come in handy?" I happened to spy a PID Temp controller unit complete with thermocouple buried in the pile so now that's in my posession! I'll test it tomorrow so fingers crossed. :) Think somebody's trying to tell me something.

Our own Bob Connor's first experience of heating sides didn't quite go as he'd expected.

I liked your idea of turning it on for two minutes then cycling Allen, but never look a gift horse, or in this case a PhD student, in the mouth I say

Making our own nice gear is just another facette of guitar building. Some like it, others don't.

Looking forward to your next three builds (12-string, reso and fully automated side bender). ;)

I don't remember for which of the two options I have voted because I hesitated several times, waiting for the occasion to throw my weight in on the "looser's" scale pan, which not always was the same one. I don't mind which one you build first. I liked the quirky idea to let the forum members decide.

Cheers,
Markus

Was that with or without thermocouple controller?

Without Markus

Well thanks everybody who voted & for your input, I see there's a short dark 12 string in my future.
High ho, high ho, it's off to the wood pile I go.

Got a few sketchy ideas already but will start in earnest, having a few sleepless nights planning this build, as you do  .

Well! You don't need to be "Grumpy" about it. On the other hand, I wouldn't be "dopey" either
