e Bay Tool

Post by auscab » Sat Mar 24, 2012 10:17 pm

Here is a good tool to be had, if you were lucky enough to have large enough timber to split for braces, or tops.
The seller has put it up as a Mortice Axe, which it is not, it might help the price.

It's a Froe.

It needs a long soak in a vinegar bath, but unless there are some deep pits he's not showing, it looks like it will clean up nicely.

Salt bath would probably make you feel better than the vinegar. I know you spend a lot of time out at sea, but you didn't look too rusty in the last pictures I saw of you.

I have a froe that I picked up just for splitting out braces. Mine is larger than I really need, but it does work nicely.
