Does anyone on the forum have any connections with saw millers or tone wood suppliers in Tassie? the wife and i are planning a trip down there and i thought if it was possible i'd take the opportunity and check out some timber at the source!

Hey Rod,
Check this old thread out...viewtopic.php?f=3&t=810
...it's one I've kept in the memory bank, just in case I ever get down that way too.

Hi Rod, If you get up to the NW corner then go to Stanley and check out what Chris Searle has. I was there in 2009 and bought some Native Olive from him. He is on the isthmus called "the Neck" that links the Nut to the Mainland. His phone no. is (03) 6458 1108.

Island Specialty Timbers in Geeveston, south of Hobart is part of Forestry Tasmania, and they supply instrument quality wood. If I remember correctly, their advertisement in the last issue of Australian Wood Review (the back cover), featured a lovely blackwood uke by Jeremy Fullerton, one that I think has also appeared in this forum's gallery. If you contact them, they will probably post you their catalogue/price list, or you can pm me and I will organize a copy for you.

Chris has retired so I would definitely call before dropping in there to see if he is still selling anything . I visited him at Christmas and although he still dabbles a little he he certainly didn't have the inventory of a few years ago.

There is a place near him called the Wild Wood Gallery or something similar but they are quite expensive.

Regards
