Chuck Moore posted this link over on UU, and I'll repost here. Needless to say Grit has become one of the most influential builders and innovators of the modern guitar, and a real hero to many.

Re: Grit Laskin talks of the guitar business.
Allen thanks for the link. I had the opportunity to visit Grit in his shop with 4 other builders a few years back.
Was a a Sunday too. He was a very gracious host that loves to talk about his work. Seeing his inlays and the drawings he completes before cutting any parts was quite amazing.

Thanks Allen, I found it all pretty interesting but was most impressed that he gets so much money for his guitars. A lot of work obviously but he must be doing well for himself.

I was surprised too. Price of instrument seems a bit low to me for how spectacular his work is. On top of that if you've read his book he says that first and foremost the guitar has to sound and play fantastic, or it's just a guitar like object of art. He's been doing it long enough that I'm sure they do. If you don't have his book it's a must have in my opinion.
Now compare the price he's getting to that of what makers at the top of their game, doing other types of stringed instruments are getting. But it sure would be nice to get a waiting list 2 years long getting even 1/2 of what he's getting.
