Files without handles
Anyone know where I can buy files without handles already attached? I toured around all my local hardware stores yesterday (Bunnings, Fisher Discount, Gasweld, Fitch, etc), and none of them had any files for sale that didn't already have handles attached.
I guess if I have to, I can buy them with handles and remove them.

Re: Files without handles
My problem is usually the opposite. My local hardware store (Cairns Hardware) has boxes of them without handles. Have you checked the more industrial supply places like Allied Bearings, Blackwoods etc.

Hey Nick
If you haven't already, you could try M&G Industrial Supplies 3/5 Wiluna St Fyshwick
or Blackwoods in Gladstone St.

Actually, after a bit more of a web search I found that Canning Vale Hardware in Perth had a good selection of Nicholson files without handles on their web site at what seemed good prices, so I ordered what I wanted from them: http://www.wahardware.com.au/

Nicking our stuff aye!.....(pun intended)..we don't have much stuff in Perth, our files don't even come with handles like they do in the rest of the country. Its the mining boom two speed economy thing. All the retail outlets assume that every one is a cashed-up miner....Sell ya a file for a few buck, want the handle?? then get ur credit card out sunshine.Nick Payne wrote:Actually, after a bit more of a web search I found that Canning Vale Hardware in Perth had a good selection of Nicholson files without handles on their web site at what seemed good prices, so I ordered what I wanted from them: http://www.wahardware.com.au/

I bought a belt in Bali last year, didn't look closely enough, they wanted to charge me extra for the holes.

Just as well too. Holes are a prohibited import into Australia as they cause erosion.jeffhigh wrote:I bought a belt in Bali last year, didn't look closely enough, they wanted to charge me extra for the holes.

Re: Files without handles
We have a selection of 'universal' holes in a draw here at work that we regularly use, they are incredible because it's just as the sales guy told us, one size does indeed, fit all! No matter what size drill bit we use, if it drills a round or slightly out of round, the hole always fits, perfectly, we don't even have to glue them or tap them in with a hammer anymore! Modern technology still has me shaking my head at times.Tonxi wrote:Just as well too. Holes are a prohibited import into Australia as they cause erosion.
So if you get the chance to get your hands on these I say go for it. But don't get the ones labelled "Black" which are the ones I think you are refering to Martyn, they will indeed cause errosion, on a grand scale.
