Ohhhh Shite & briny tools! :) Nice purchase . I've seen a number of people gluing bigger lumps of wood on the handles of the Ibex as they complain about the 'ball' part digging into their palms/hands. As I'm not carving archtops everyday I just put up with the blisters  which mine invariably gives me (I have the same as the central one in your collection).

Nice to hear in church but not in a Mexican prison.

For a temp solution, how about a glob of friendly plastic Nick.

Cheers

I'm very envious Martin, I need a small plane and have been looking at the Ibex for a while. I'd really like some feedback on the D'Angelico Planes as my need is primarily for shaping braces and these look great.

Hi Kim,

For shaving braces the Schneider plane at far right would be the go...its a flat sole plane.

When I pulled them out of the box I thought LMI had stuffed up the order and sent me the deluxe gold plated models. I spent 20 minutes in the shop just holding these little darlings in my hand.....they have a really nice feel. Nothing better than a well made hand tool.

Pervert

I have really sweaty hands so my nice shiny palm plane has gone a nice shade of black & green in some places, but I suspect that a rub with some Brasso would bring it back to it's former glory.

I get a real buzz out of new tools, pull'em apart and check each bit is as it should be. Clean each one and lube as necessary, then assemble it all carefully ensuring alignment is as good as it can possibly be and will even dress any screws if the situation allows so they all align....Most times none of this is really necessary, but I guess its the equivalent of a dog cocking its leg because now I 'own' the tool and from then on its fine to let it get old and tarnished and glorious...but never rusty like me.

Cheers

What a great purchase!
Those on the LMI Website don't look half as nice.

You have thought right. They messed up the order, you have to send them back!

When new tools arrive I do nearly the same, only that I "then assemble it all carefully ensuring alignment is as good as before"

Very nice additions to your fleet Martin. Yep,I'm jealous too.
I have been using this little guy a lot lately, made by Stephen Boone.

Nice Martin. I'll go stand over with the others who are jealous.

Dave, how is Stephen's plane working out for you? I've been looking at them for a while now, thinking one needed to come live with me.

Been doing & wondering the same thing Lillian. Great minds a?! Good reviews from people I don't know so it would be good to hear from a forum member.

It's a fine little plane for brace shaving and other small tasks Lillian. It's very light
and easy to make but I have no time for that, so I bought one ...30 bucks I think it was.

Feel free to put up a link if you got one Dave. It relates to lutherie and you have no affiliation other than being a happy customer so we welcome a heads up on where people can buy one of these natty little planes from.

Cheers

There's a few outlets selling his planes, but the two main ones are: Luthiers supplies or direct from Stephen himself.
