Noth'in new Lil, we got'em all over Australia. We put'em in trenches dug across most of the road in our rural areas string side up and call'em cattle grids. :lol:

Thanks for the link Lillian.
It seems it wasn't easy for the builder to make this monster sound right. Probably he should try out one of those Aussie cattle grids for making the commercialiseable version at a reasonable price.

I'm thinking its the synthetic material he must have used. He needs to find a Maine Coon cat to get a skin large enough.

But jokes aside, the sound of this one makes me wonder if something a tad bit smaller might work as a bass banjo. I liked what sound he could tease out of it. To me, it has potential as an instrument.

Building one just doesn't appeal to me. :lol:

You could even get a cheap drum kit (maple or birch) and saw it in half or thirds...then make a bevel on the front edge so that it would accept a bass drum skin then chuck some screw lugs on the side to tighten the skin and bob is your uncle. I thought that was what he had done until i read on haha
