Temperament

Post by Bob Connor » Sun May 29, 2011 12:08 pm

I found this .PDF I stashed away that is a very good introduction to the way that tempered scales and string intonation works.

The author David Collins is a well respected guitar repair person from Michigan who was at one time repair person at Elderly instruments. There are some interesting links to further reading.

Good article Bob.
What all the salesmen for bent frets etc dont tell you is that it cant work in all keys.
I used to tune harmonicas to a "natural scale" though and that does sweeten up the chords.

It's one thing I don't have to fret about. I don't have the temperament for it.
