However It was lacking in bottom end and the unwound strings, particularly the B were very loud. It was so imbalanced that you would not have considered using it professionally.
So I took the instrument to the local music store where I had purchased the pickup to get a second opinion.
First question I asked was "do they make these pickups in a left or right handed orientation as far as the pole pieces were concerned?" Bill, the owner wasn't sure so we plugged it in to one of his PA's and it sounded just as bad as through my AER amp.
The pole pieces are not adjustable in these pickups.
So we turned the pickup around in the soundhole and bingo. Sounds just like a bought one

It seems that these pickups are constructed to favour the bottom end strings on a right handed instrument.
This Weissy was a lefty.
Thought this might be useful to someone down the track.
I simply turned the pickup other way to what you see below.
