Carbon Fibre Supplier

Post by Bob Connor » Sat May 21, 2011 9:40 pm

I had to replenish the carbon fibre supply recently and as my usual supplier, Los Alamos Composites, had gone out of business I thought I'd try Dragon Plate.

http://www.dragonplate.com/

We have done some group buys here on the ANZLF with Jim Watts from Los Alamos and he had always been a reliable source of Carbon Fibre.

The transaction with Dragon Plate went flawlessly and the CF looks pretty good although it is that type with the rounded edges so I'll have to flatten that off before I use it.

I use CF in necks and on the upper transverse brace so you'll see both of what I had bought in the pics below.

Same thing with me Bob, but I used The Composites Store because I wanted some CF material for bridge plates on ukes that David Hurd recommends and gets from them. The rods also came with rounded shoulders and a smother finish than the ones from the group buy. I think that they are designed and used for a more exposed application where people will be able to see and touch them, so smooth finish and edges are the norm.

Again the transaction went flawlessly. Prices where quite reasonable and shipping was fast.

Hi Bob, What sizes did you get in your order? Their prices look quite good so thanks for the link. I think that I will order from them too.

John

I've just ordered a bunch at .125x.325x18 from the Goodwinds closeout page

http://www.goodwinds.com/merch/list.shtml?cat=specials

$2.99 each. They haven't arrived yet so I can't vouch for the quality but I will report back when they arrive.

I also got a buch of go-bars for $1.79 each.
will report back when they arrive.

Just another supplier to throw in the mix -

http://www.carbonfiber.com.au/

Local, being Melbourne based, they only have a small range compared to O/S suppliers but reasonable pricing if you need a small top up quickly for a project. I've bought a few odds and ends from them.

They have carbon fiber and aramid/kevlar tow, as well as rods, tape, cloth etc. I've found they also have a few items more than what is listed on their website so you can always email and ask should you need anything else.

Jeremy.
