Where can I get abalone in 1 1/2" radius for ukulele rosettes? Hana Lima sell them but they charge $26 postage for a small parcel and shell is a prohibited export from USA :gui .

Try http://mopsupplies.com they're Australian. I've heard good things about them.

As Liam said, MOP is the place to go. It's the only place I deal with for shell. Martin is great to deal with. He should be on our preferred vendors list.

:D :D :D WOW :D :D :D :D
They have so much nice shell at such reasonable prices I will have to have a rethink.
My planned single ring of paua or abalone seems a bit boring now I see all the variety of colours and diameters that they have.

I offered him to be a preferred vendor when the forum first started but he didn't do anything about it.

For $47 that it would have cost from Hana Lima 'ia for 2 paua circles plus postage if they were willing to send it, I got 5 various circles,(paua, red abalone, green abalone, black MOP white MOP) a MOP nut blank, MOP Bridge blank plus a sheet of freshwater pearl and a sheet of awabi to play with.
I'm not going to die wondering which would look best plus some of them fit concentrically offering other options too.
Thanks for putting me straight. :gui

Yes, Martin's good. He can also supply shell custom cut to your pattern.

All this and no minimum order!
I think we should talk to him again about being on our preferred vendors list.
I have never heard MOP nut/bridge. What is the tone?
I saw laminated nut/bridge blanks from paua/abalone on one part of the site but not the other?
I fancy the look. :gui

I've use MOP for both nut and saddle. To be honest I couldn't hear any difference, but damn they do look good.
