Getting back to THIS build, I have just received a nice Auriou hand-cut rasp for a birthday present, which will make the scroll carving a lot easier. I never thought I'd get excited over a rasp, but this is very nice.
I got two of those Aurious a while back and they're the bees knees as far as rasps go...

Thanks for the welcome, Nick.

Okeedoke. I'll get on it. My eldest pointed out that my camera already has a delayed shutter release (or whatever it is called) and a remote infrared receptor, of some sort, with the requisite control (tiny enough to lose in a shirt-pocket, let alone a messy shop), so I guess I simply have to learn to use them, and get on with it.

Right now the mold is complete, the c-bout ribs are installed, and the upper ribs are installed. The neck/scroll assembly is cut out, and shaping has begun, but that is as far as the carnage has progressed. I will figure out the camera, and start a new thread when I have something to show.

Thanks again for the welcome. This seems to be a pretty friendly forum compared to some. I do appreciate it.

Glad to have another "Non Guitar" person on the forum Chet, all goes toward an all 'rounded' view of instruments & I'm sure there's some cross-instrument learning to be done  And as far as friendly goes we have our moments

Matthew, what's the status report on your health issues? Any update on resumption of the bass build?

The bass build continues. The scroll is taking shape nicely and the back bracing is complete, nearly ready to glue to the ribs.

I am disappointed that due to things out of my control I missed the deadline for the 2011 ISB makers competition.

Competition's loss is our gain 8) Sad that you missed this years comp Matthew but as Allen questioned, hopefully there's another next year & you take the honours.

The pity was not being able to exhibit one of my instruments in front of a LARGE potential client base. There is very little scope for sale in Oz.

It is held every two years. next one in Rochester NY. There will be other opportunities.
