I'm planning to apply a Hard Shellac finish (by hand) to the couple of builds I'm doing.
I also ordered a swansdown mop for buffing and was wondering what people are using as their buffing compound.
I'm also about to put through my last Stewmac order for awhile so I looked at getting some fine menzerna but this is $25 and added $12 to the postage (thus it would cost $37).
Before trying to chase it up at the auto paint suppliers I checked online for the same stuff here in Oz and only found liquid menzerna polishes.
So what's everyone's prefered compound?
Cheers

Re: Buffing Compound Query
Apologies in advance for my memory Craig but I use a swansdown buff that I got off the mob in Melbourne that make them, I may be wrong but I think they are the only company making them and they also make a buffing compound which is similar to the Menzerna job (it is the same colour). I can't find the mob I bought it off but you may be able to track them down as I think they are the only makers of the swansdown wheel here.

Got the swansdown mop & Hard Shellac from Carrolls Woodcraft Supplies.
Couldn't see any buffing compound though - only waxing polish.

Re: Buffing Compound Query
Okay, I found my mails to them. I got it from "The Australian buff company" they don't seem to have their swansdown and compounds on their web site but I dealt with them over the phone anyway. I did have to buy a big slab of compound though, may have cost more than Stewy mac but it was a lot more in quantity too.

Re: Buffing Compound Query
You can try anything 'Ultra fine' and water soluble. Always check to ensure there is no silicon in them, if the supplier is unsure don't use em. Some are suitable for machine buff or hand buff removal (a few occassionally dont like a machine near em) and use a/one dedicated pad for the same compound even after washing (dont mix microns). In this weather just buy small quantities cos they notoriously split. With Meguiars i reckon you pay a lot of money for the perfume and sunblock they use, and don't buy compounds with wax in em, you are going to polish after buffing?
