I don’t know if this is of interest or not to those of you who build ukes, as I know nothing about them and haven’t done much following of the threads about them on this forum. I can see by the number of posts that there is a big following of this instrument by other members. I have seen an increase in repairs of ukes come through my workshop and this is one of them.
Photos will tell the story. It looks like its all mahogany; it’s made in Australia and top and back are carved with violin type overhang over the rims. The ticket inside is pretty unreadable; I could just make out Australia.

It may not be of interest thought I’d post it anyway, I thought it was interesting and different.

I don't know for sure but I would be careful with that one Taffy cause she could be worth a Bob or two.

Hey Taffy,

Could you please get some good images and measurements of this uke, and give us some idea of the bracing, if I am going to make a uke it will be one of these, I 'love' the shape and it's aussie. They have one in the powerhouse museum it would appear.

Here's one with the bridge in place, apparently they are not glued. The tale is that these were made by a violin maker, kind of shows with the bridge placement and overhang of the rims.

Great bit of nostalgia you got there Taffy. What's it like inside? Arch plates like a violin? Any bracing?

What's it in to see the doc for?

Apparently there is some sort of form work inside that attempts to direct sound out of the soundhole......sounding a bit Macaffari to me. Anyhow the website I looked at suggested it was not so successful. I like the shape and would like to brace one up with ladder bracing or even a very fine and spars lattice.

looks pretty cool I reckon.

Are the plates carved or pressed or laminated or what?

either way, I like it.

Liam.
