Hi guys

For anyone intending to make a bending jig, McJing Tools in Sydney have press screws available for $10 each plus postage. I know Lillian has been sending them from USA previously. I have purchased 1 to check them out and they seem ok and good prompt service. They are only 10 inches long with 7 1/2 inch travel so they may be a tad short.
They are found in the woodworking section under clamps and are called a press clamp/screw.

Here's what I used 1/2" threaded rod.

The ones that Lillian forwarded on to some of us from Rockler have about 6" of actual travel. Don't know what they were specified at, but I've got one in my uke bender, and the other in my guitar bender. I have no problem with the amount of travel in either case.

Hi people.
I'm fairly new to the forum and still playing catch up on some archive posts. Found this one and thought I would post my version of the waist press "screw" on my bender. An old broken caulking gun rescued from the bin. I find it super quick and easy to use and has plenty of travel. Cheap as!
Note the scorch marks on the bottom of the form. Before I got my heat blanket I used to throw the thing on the grill section of my barbie. Very Aussie! It sort of did the trick but I always risked setting the whole rig on fire. Sides would have this combined smell of rosewood, smoke and steak for a while.

Hey Taff,,are you happy with the amount of leverage you can get using that old bandsaw wheel to turn down that 1/2 inch all thread???

Rod, I use the same jig for my smallest parlor to the dread size molds, so need the movement shown. With a small knob on top it was painfully slow to adjust. Now its just a quick flick and the wheels momentum takes the assembly up or down in one motion, well maybe two.

I thought Pete's idea is a real caulker.
