This is sort of a test to load my first pix, but I thought I'd add this. I am more of a lurker than a poster, but I like what is going on here. So I visit often. I really enjoyed the process of initially buying good bracing stock, to recycling old stock from misc sources (door parts, furniture, beams, etc). It's like finding treasure at times. EDIT: the billet isn't my pic, just had it for reference for a young builder. credit goes to someone else (Shane Neiffer?)

G'day Terry,

I note you have piano written on one of your brace stock . I've salvaged quite a bit of piano spruce too , some of it over a hundred years old. Great to be able to give it a third life .

I had myself convinced it would be brilliant brace stock . (light and strong ). I set up some tests comparing to some newish Sitka stock only to find it seemed no better nor worse . Of course, I haven't tested all my stock so there may well be some brilliant stuff among it . At least I know it's well seasoned !

Looks like you figured out how to post pictures just fine Terry. That bracing material looks bloody beautiful.

Yep! I am into recycling especially for brace wood too. I use recycled Douglas Fir, the old growth North American stuff not the NZ fast grown stuff. You see it in building site skips sometimes with very tight rings.
Mike Connor just gave me a nice DF verandah post last week that will find its way into my guitars.
