Thinking of buying an acoustic amp, any recommendations around 60 watts.
At the moment considering Roland AC 60, or laney

Hi Michael, have not used either amps you mentioned but the Roland has rave reviews.
Have a friend that has a SWR California blonde that sounds great.
Not knowing what your set up is or needs re gigging etc sometimes i think a quality powered speaker box and a little mixer is a good option that is also flexible as well.

I have a Compact 60 Mobile and love it. The sound output, both quality and volume, will sit you square on your arse. Its called a 'Mobile' cause it has a rechargeable gel cell motorcycle battery inside. It charges while your plugged and playing on mains so you can then play a few hours without power or even run off a car ciggy lighter with the appropriate cable cause its had a dual 12/240v system. Unless you need that feature though the standard Compact 60 would be the best bet cause its cheaper, but both sound fantastic.

G'day Micheal,

For the money I like these Marshall acoustic amps very much. Having worked in music stores for many years I had the opportunity to try out many amps. I really liked this amp! It is hard to believe that an amp can generate such a big warm sound from two eight inch bass drivers and a single tweeter.

Hi all

Any one tried the Schertler UNICO they get great reviews but I can't figure out how the the input levels work with different pickups.

On different guitars I have syd west pickups and pre amps, Syd west pickup with fishman plantinum pre amp, K&K trinity, K&K pure mini, Syd west undersaddle with preamp and K&K mic and pre amp and just to complicate things a DTAR wave length and pre amp.

I'm only a fingerpicker and don't get the why's and wherefore's of differernt impedence levels. I just want to plug in and sound half reasonable

Scares the bejesus out of me just thinking about it.

While we're at it ...

I've started building a replica U-Bass Ukulele as a December birthday present for my almost-17 year old son who has gone completely 'bass-crazy'. We first saw one at Cairns Music Central during the recent Ukulele Festival, and he fell head-over-heels for one straight off. Hardware is available ... just needing to finish the baritone-sized body.

Advice required is what brand/model of practice amp would be a good start-up unit for the young bloke, an amp which would also handle a conventional electric bass guitar should he ever save enough pocket money to buy one (doubt it ), or probably better still, convince dad to build him one.

Budget for the amp would be in the $400-500 range,

I hadn't heard of them and do now want my own

You will need a dedicated bass amp I don't think the acoustic amps mentioned in this thread will handle the low bass frequencies I would think they are more for guitar and voice. You might blow the speakers low volume might be ok but your 17 year old will turn it up for sure.
There are heaps of cheap Asian built units out there in your price range
company's like Behringer,Ashton etc. They will get your son up and running.

Some how the $1000 budget went a bit north, any way it gets great reviews it's made by SR technology with tweaks by Mr Brozman

For any Christchurch/NZ based luthiers, I was in Christchurch last week and noticed that Musicworks in Colombo Street have a stock of AER amps on their shop floor. Charlie Jemmett runs the store and hes one of the most trustworthy guys I've come across in the music business.

i have a 35 watt ,its got two 5" celestions ,i used it to mike up classical guitar & have had nothing but good coments about sound quality. i can also run my bass through it!
