Hey Bob, your little baby haas now reached 2/3 of 1000 members!

I always look at that number when I log and am amazed to think that so many people are involved enough in this pastime and business to sign up.

It's been said before, but this forum is bloody fantastic. You deserve some sort of Aussie medal for hosting and looking after it so well....

here, here for Bob. A milestone for sure.

What's the prize going to be for the 1000th member then?

The ANZLF is a precious resource to the world's luthier community, and Bob, and everyone that takes the time to share knowledge, camaraderie, and laugh together is (as the corny commercial says) priceless.

Thanks to all of you who interact and make the ANZLF the place it is!

Liam - thanks for vision ...

How about we aim for as many of us as is physically possible to get together, somewhere in Oztralia, to celebrate the occasion?

I've experienced the amazing camaraderie of teaming up with ANZLFers at a couple of Playmakers events, and during the Cairns Uke Festival, and I'm thinking it's high time we looked at the idea of a National Get Together. Given our membership is in the upper 600's it'll probably take another year or more before we reach 1,000 ... but an in-the-flesh Australia/New Zealand Luthiers Forum would sure be a hell-raiser of an event. Imagine, if you will, the sharing of ideas; the showcasing of our wares; keynote makers/presenters; the music-making; the hang-overs.

It'd more than likely take a monumental amount of organising, however we could perhaps dovetail on the back of other national festivals (e.g. Port Fairy, or similar).

If it's good enough for the GAL to meet every couple of years, maybe it's good enough for us to turn up to an inaugural event of our own here.

Just an idea.

Could certainly pack light Allen, couple of pairs of shorts and tee shirts. More room for the booze in the case.

Ahem... I think Melbourne is a far more fair choice - located conveniently half way between Cairns and Perth?

Sorry Nick O though; you'd have to pack for bloody anything (and likely everything)

Has Taffy still got any Alice Springs connections? Sounds nice and central to me and I have always wanted to see Alice as well, maybe sniff out a few desert species. Alice is also very dry so you need to consume lots of liquid, sounds like it would suit a few here.

They won't after my security guys have finished with them! A large drum of hot hide glue will be set up out the back of the workshop and wood lifters will be immersed in same before being chucked over the fence into the neighbours chicken coop

You're just bragging now .... I can hardly fit in my workshop. Any workshop that can fit 10 is a factory in my books.

Thanks folks - I only just saw this as I'm in Bali on holidays at the moment. However the reason the the forum runs so well is because of the work put in by the the admin/moderators. They're the ones to thank. Not me.
Anyway I'll just get back to my Bintang and ruminate about how little I'm going to do today.

Oh . My driver thinks he might be able to find Macassar Ebony for me when we go to Ubud next week.

Regards
Bob, Geelong

What have I started??

First, thanks moderators all, too. Much appreciated, if a bit under the radar.

Second, a get together is a great idea, I am sure a few of us Kiwis would be up for that. IF you clean the place up a bit you might even get Hesh there!

Not sure about woodshed accomodation offers in the West Island, though especially in view of the some of the security staff you have there. 10 ft snakes of any variety don't do much for me.

I won't bother suggesting you hold it in Auckland. Melbourne seems like a good idea, as presumably thats where it all started. Its something to think about.

If you were looking at an ANZLF get together I think the ideal spot would be either Sydney or Melbourne if you consider our demographic of active members. Both of those locations are relatively easy for the New Zealand brethren to get across as well.

I did mention to some of the blokes at Playmakers last year about a trip to Tassie (which I have been very slack about) which would involve visits to sawmills and much drinking of Boags and Cascade. So maybe that could be possible.

I'm just throwing a few ideas out here but if there is a year to plan it we may be able to stretch it out to more than a weekend.

I can also arrange a tour of the Maton factory if it were to be in Melbourne.

Food for thought anyway. I'm off for another Bintang

I'd be up for a trip across the ditch, the likes of Jetstar make it a more realistic option nowadays. Like the sound of a tour of Maton too Bob, a close second to sniffing & ogling Martin's stash.

....a thought on an opportunity for a get together....
Melbourne has hosted a "guitar makers festival" for two years now - held in May at the Abbottsford convent. Some of you guys know Jack Spira - perhaps you could run the idea past him.
While the festival to date has largely been an opportunity for small number of great builders to get exposure and sales, they might be willing to broaden their vision of the festival.
