Re: Discord Over China's Guitar Timber Trade
Very interesting last line of that article John.
I'm sure Maton would love to toughen up import regulations.
If anyone has been following what has been happening in Tasmania in the last few months we may see some of those minor species like Myrtle and Sassafras becoming increasingly scarce and more expensive (if indeed that is possible for Tiger Myrtle which is already commanding premium prices)
Smartest bloke on this forum is Kiwigeo who already has a tonewood bunker of mammoth proportions. The volumes that China is buying is putting pressure even an Canadian and Alaskan reserves of Sitka Spruce, let alone some of the more endangered species like Madagascar Rosewood and Ebony.

Re: Discord Over China's Guitar Timber Trade
Hey thanks for posting this John.
I wonder how FSC certified those Chinese made Walden guitars actually are.
This only confirms what I have heard about Gibson, not long ago
they were sending reps to Brazil to buy Brazilian Rosewood furniture ornaments etc,
mostly from poor folk, packing it all into containers and shipping it back to the States where it
was bandsawed up for guitar sets, and sold at some ridiculous price.
one word come to mind. "Filthy"
