I was asked by my daughter, in Mackay Qld if I would build a glory box for her daughter [just turned 16 years]. At about the same time my son in Adelaide suggested that his son [18 years] would love to have one of my guitars but would not ask me. He had however sounded me out about USA Strats earlier.
In the photos the box is finished but the guitar is not [yet to be sprayed.] These are the photo's I sent them to show how things are going.
With the glory box I used a mix of timbers, some I do not know the names of yet. However I mixed the timbers from a number of different sources complete with nail holes and dings, recycling again, to give the box a bit more interest. The hardwood??? and Silky Oak I salvaged from a local hotel, The Excelsior Hotel, circa 1800's when it was partly demolished after a fire and rebuilt. Radiata Pine from shelving from a local store, and some other pine type timber from a very old paint cupboard I got from a garage sale. the leafy embellishments are English Walnut. The 110 brass screws used I had to buy, what a bummer.
I'll tell you about the guitar soon.
Now back to guitar work........
