What to see in Barcelona

Post by Dominic » Mon Oct 12, 2009 2:04 pm

Hey, I am going to Barcelona for 10 days in early November. :D My partner is going for a climate change conference and I am tagging along so have all day to myself during the week.

I have found the Barcelona Music Museum which among other things, has a collection of Torres guitars but thought some of you may know of some other interesting guitar related things to do/visit while there.

Tough job I know but someone's gotta do it.

Cheers

Dom

Barcelona has a long history of classical making. Fleta was, and I think still is, located on Calle de Los Angeles (Carrer de Los Angeles if the street signs are in Catalan) It's close to the coast, near La Barceloneta in the area (Vila Olimpica) that was redeveloped for the Barcelona Olympics Interestingly the next street is Calle de Melbourne.

I don't think you could go to Barcelona without checking out Antoni Gaudi's work. Gotta be top of the list.

I second that.

Nice to hear in church but not in a Mexican prison.

I've heard of some people actually getting to hear the famous "paper" back and side Torres. Maybe you can ask? you never know your luck!

In terms of the city I didn't think Barcelona was that good. Extremely tourist based. If you have time (10 days you might be able to fit in a side trip) then i really suggest going north into the Pyrenees. Take a train and then a bus to Torla and have a walk into the Ordessa valley (2 days including travel probably)

Its possibly one of the most beautiful places i've ever seen.

What a terrible plan mate.
Terrible weather, terrible food, jet lag, english tourists, can't drink the water, top of the top ten pick-pocket sites, someone might rob your house, better cancel & stay home.

In Madrid watch out for packs of gypsy women on the trains and smack the first one who bumps into you.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.
Definitely go see Gaudi’s stuff and Picasso has work there and any guitar museums I can find. Any further suggestions here would help.

And Super(Look up, up in the sky, is that a flying luthier I see)Dave, sounds like a good plan, I like mountains, specially coming from WA which is fantastic if you like thousands of miles of flat.

And I think Bob was suggesting I eat some kind of food at some place but I'm not sure if he means don't spend too much or don't get pick pocketed or perhaps both!!

Been to my share of pickpocket hot spots. Rome was fun. And used to go surfing in Bali every year when I lived in Margaret River . I used to keep my cash in my sock and not take a wallet. Though I reckon some of the little buggers could get you sock off, take you cash and have it back on without you knowing. Gotta admire the skill.

Not sure what Craig's angle is yet, but I'm sure there is one and I'll work it out.

Cheers

Craig's angle is simple. He's jealous as all hell.
And to justify it he's behaving like a 5 year old by deciding that if he can't go then neither should anyone else.
His efforts to find something on the web to back up his ranting are purely juvenile.

And if you have fun while your there he'll take all his toys away and you can't play with them.
So there.
