Ervin Somogyi Course in Australia

Post by Bob Connor » Mon Oct 05, 2009 6:11 pm

Hi all

I've had some correspondance with Ervin about the workshops that he is considering at the Thomas Lloyd school in Melbourne.

There may be a possibility that he will deliver one or two day workshops aimed at different levels and may lead on to him delivering the full week long course at a later date.

All of this is at a very early stage of consideration.

I'd like to know what sort of interest there would be and what your main area of interest would be - steel or nylon string.

I know your first question will be "How much will it cost?"

To be honest I don't have a clue but I would imagine it would be commensurate with Ervins reputation, experience and standing within the luthiery community.

I'd be very interested in the in depth course in either nylon or steel strings. I'd imagine we'd be looking at the long course that may be offered at a latter date, as a trip 1/2 way across the continent gets a bit rich if it was just a day or two. However, if the short course was going to be geared above the beginner level then I may consider it as well.

I'd be interested in the week long course as well Allen. Steel String.

Seeing as though I'm close to Melbourne I'd be in for a shorter course if that was available as well.

I rode my motorcycle down to Bob's back in February. 10,000 km round trip. and my arse is just recovering. I'd be up for it again, as I had just the best time.

Well it looks to me that Geelong Bob, Will have to see if he can talk Ervin into doing the short course & the long course back to back.
At least you dont have to build the guitar with your Arse.

Well, I would like to throw my hat into the ring. It will depend on when and where before I could make a full commitment. My parent live in Victoria so I could arrange a visit with them at the same time.

Steel string for me.

Cheers

Hi i'm only new to the forum but would be interested in steel string construction.

Totally dependent on cost though. Being a PHD student my budget may not stretch that far.
