dreadnought

Post by jmuller92 » Sun Sep 06, 2009 5:03 pm

hey everyone,
just thought id post up progress on the first build, hopefully not too long before shes finished. Anyone got any inspirations for bridge design? Im thinking something that incorporates the headstock shape. What do you all think?

Used bobs beautiful koa for the headstock, and added the 3D element through the middle with a darker grained piece. Wasnt able to finish the fretboard as i ran out of wire and the slots were too shallow, didnt have a thin enough saw at school to resaw.

Already scheming my next build (is that a bad thing part way through?) and am rubbing my hands together at the possibilities of things i can incorporate :D

Whatever you decide for the bridge, try and make the footprint to have a similar gluing area as a traditional belly bridge. It's that big for a reason.

I'm a little conservative when it comes to bridges. I like to stay fairly close to traditional designs. You won't find too many people make a negative comment on something that they are use to seeing, but it had better be really well thought out and pleasing to the eye for one that they don't expect to see. My 2 cents anyway.

Great progress, and if you weren't dreaming of the next build, I'd say you haven't been bitten by the bug.

Looking great and I must say that that is one stealth bridge on that puppy... :D

Very nice work and I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with for a bridge. It might be helpful to also target a weight for your bridge design.

Need any help sweeping that floor? :D
