Abrasives for drum-sander

Post by Stu » Sun Aug 16, 2009 10:38 pm

What is the preferred cloth-backed brand of abrasive you guys
use and where can I get the stuff from ?

I've got a twin drummy MS-25b from Carbatec and I'm wanting to source a 50 metre roll of 80 grit for the front drum. Carbatec stock Burgundy coloured Hermes paper which I've heard is pretty good but they're not great on bulk prices.

cheers, Stu

Hey Stu,
Try AUSTRALIAN ABRASIVES
Their website is a bit confusing, so I usually just
ring and talk to someone no the phone.
I've bought 1500grit on 1metre wide rolls by the metre
and the price was OK. Prices could be OK for you

Hi Stu
I bought direct from a manufacturer/distributor, SIA abrasives in 958 Stud Rd, Rowville - 9753 4333.
25m of P80 velcro backed cost around $60.

If you want to try some of it to see if you are happy with it, give me a call.

Thanks for the replies fellas.
It's all sorted out now, after a few phone calls.

For 100mm wide Hermes cloth-backed 80 grit on a 50 metre roll
I ordered it from Abrasive products in Dandenong 9794 7311.
The bloke was really helpful and happy to help out.
Their price was $100 all up and a one week wait to get in.
That's $2 per l/m buying in bulk. ($5.50 per singular metre at Carbatec)

The same paper from others........Waugh's - $200 Carbatec $169

SIA wouldn't sell to me direct and gave me the number of Waugh's in Bayswater. The guy couldn't get me off the phone quick enough. :x

The 'sandpaper man' only stocks 76mm wide rolls.
Carrolls a little expensive too.

Thanks all, and by looking at the discrepancy in pricing, it pays to shop around !!

cheers, Stu
