L1 Gibson Ukulele

Post by Joe Sustaire » Tue May 26, 2009 5:14 am

My tenor uke interpretation of the early L1 Gibson. Carpathian spruce top, ebony mun b&s, african blackwood binding and saddle. Permalyn gunstock finish on top and neck, back and sides french polished.

This is my first uke so I don't have much to judge the sound by, but she seems sweet and mellow, if these blasted strings ever stop stretching that is!

Another lovely looking uke Joe. Great combo of colors on that one. I find that the strings on mine settle down after a day or so. There is a certainly a difference in how you go about building something this small with low tension strings. A real learning curve in getting to tone and volume out of them.

Very nice job on the tenor Joe. They are a great size and when the strings settle down you will have a lot of fun with it.':D'

Well the strings are setting down and her voice is opening up and sounding good.

I tried to keep the major differences between ss & uke strongly in mind while building. B&S .065", can't find where I noted top thickness, but I tried to keep it and bracing as light as possible.

So I'm very pleased with the sound for my first venture into uke building.

Thanks for the great comments guys,
Joe
