Yet another nooby...

Post by J.F. Custom » Tue May 05, 2009 2:42 pm

Hello All,

Well, I note there is no real 'section' for intros and thought it might be a bit odd to just jump on board midway through a given topic, so here I am instead... Not that I'm adverse to or unknown for being odd as well  It's taken me a while and a few prods to sign up as I often find myself too busy to sit on my Mac (sorry but the PC got the flick long ago) and participate, but hey, what better have I to do between the hours of 11:00pm and 2:00am when my son decides to jump up and down on my bed?

BTW - I too would like to be able to upload some pics so err, Bob and/or other relevant adminy type persons, if you could do the honors it'd be much appreciated and guarantee no sheep. Cats though - no guarantee there...

Having said that and looking more closely at this page... it would appear my 'button' is already active. Tell you what, I'll check that it works in another thread and let you know if not.

Catch you on another topic...

Jeremy.

Hey Sebastiaan56 and Obmit.

My button issue seems to have been pre 'worked out' *shifty eyes* hmmm...

Thanks for the kind website comments. Nah, mando not a commission but an experiment I was inspired for. The f-holes are actually full body cutouts - as in, they go right through the body which I like the effect of. The other thing on this instrument which I had not seen done before was the through dovetail laminated through neck. Say that ten times fast... Sure gave a lot of glue surface and theoretically should be very strong, though remains to be seen.

You can see it here more clearly prior to finishing.
Though not a commission, it has since gone...

Jeremy.

Welcome Jeremy. Sweet looking mando you have there. I get the feeling you might be interested in Howard Keppler's Dovetail Madness guitar. The entire guitar is put together with dovetails.

Hi Jeremy and welcome. Have stumbled on your site before and like the way it looks and works but I like that bouzouki rosette even more.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone, especially as it's all so positive!! Glad you all like the website and mando although... Maybe you don't know me well enough to criticize yet - nooby politeness?

Lillian - Had not heard of this luthier before and I thought I was masochistic with the dovetails, geeeezzz. Just goes to show though - everything has probably been done before, somewhere at sometime.

The bouzouki rosette was a new challenge and although not perfect, I'm happy with the results nonetheless. I like the idea and style and will probably try some more variations on this in the future.

Thanks again for the welcomes Tim, Lillian, Allan and Jim.

Cheers,

Jeremy.

Gday Jeremy, welcome to the ANZLF.

Class work mate, it's good to have you aboard. 8)

Anyone else noticed? We really been picking up some class southern hemisphere builders of late and it's great thing for the forum.

Cheers all.

Kim

Kia Ora Jeremy. Nice lot of stringy things you've knocked out so far! They all look very classy and well stuck together. Nice web site too.
Btw, the extra time you've spent on the rosette has paid off too! It really looks the dog's bollocks :D :serg

Hi again all,

Thanks once more for all the compliments!

Glad you like my work so far Phantom - there is plenty more dreamed up in my head that's for sure, but is there enough time for them all? :panic:

Thanks Kim, geez all you lot are very friendly, but err, class? Well, it probably won't take me long to be kicked of that stool. Thanks also BTW for your input on the graphite thread - great food for thought.

Hey Nick, thanks a lot for that! The website is possibly not as flash as I had started out to create but it took me too much time as it is so it will certainly do. BTW, just checked out your Selmer thread - WOW, beautiful work. I am yet to try one of these but rest assured, one is lined up so I may just throw some questions your way... I love these guitars - and Gypsy Jazz for that matter.

Looks like the rosette is a winner then! I hope the customer likes it as much as everyone here - they have not seen it yet. I enjoyed the process and will be doing more like this. I tend to like the little details on guitars, such also as this little ditty on a classical I built. Sometimes I'm not sure why I do things, I just decided it worked aesthetically (at least it did in my head... ) -

Hey Mike, I generally take my time about things. Good things can't be rushed you know?

Cheers all,

Jeremy.

Thanks Jeremy for the compliment  I'm only just getting into these guitars but I love them too! Infact I'm just getting into knocking out number 3, a 'D' hole Maccaferri with some differences.
As I say I'm still learning about these little beauties myself but if there's any question you have, I'll be only too glad to try & answer them for you.
And nice touch with the classical 'ditty' BTW looks good and well executed!
