The parrot guitar with pics

Here are some pics of a guitar I have been working on recently. It has come to be known as the parrot guitar. Those who have been at the school have seen this guitar take shape over the last few months. For those that don't know about the guitar, the peghead is marquetry. Back and sides are EIR, Sitka top, ebony bridge and fretboard, maple bindings, and a 5 piece mahogany neck. The finish is lacquer buffed to a high gloss and the materials are from LMI's unserviced kit.

That is one sweet looking guitar mate, no stuff ups that I can see! I was going to wait till others had posted so I could parrot their remarks but I'll be the bird brain who starts them off.

I like that a lot Robbie. The parrot looks quite similar to a Crimson Rossella. Beautiful little parrots that are fairly common in large areas of Australia.

Those are dyed veneers but they were purchased here locally in Colorado

Very nice Robbie,

I really like how tastefully the inlay was done. Every opportunity to go overboard with that particular subject matter but a keen eye for style has seen a result most pleasing to the eye.

Thanks for the compliments everyone. I got the inspiration for this guitar from Kent Everett and his floral series guitars that he did a few years ago. He had an expert in marquetry from Canada, if I remember correctly, do his designs. I was lucky enough to have access to an excellent marquetry artist named Rich Gady. http://www.richgady.com/main.html
He just happens to teach the subject at Red Rocks where I teach my guitar building classes. I gave him my design and he reproduced it in marquetry. The results are quite nice as you can tell. If anyone is interested in dressing up their guitars with some marquetry then he is your guy.
