For the electric fans maple top RG

Post by Dominic » Sat Feb 28, 2009 12:57 pm

Here is an RG style axe I am making for myself. I love the RG shape and they just sit so nice when playing standing.

It has a lovely maple top from Perry Ormsby guitars in WA on Aust red cedar body. The red cedar is really light and resonant so it will be interesting to hear it. It also looks beautiful with a finish. I have some nice light figured Qld maple for the neck.

Pics in my workshop always seen to come out yellow. Must be the lights. But this wood is really red/pink and the maple is very white. I picked up a slab of cedar at the wood show last year. I am going to rout in a piece of the curly maple to back up the neck pocket to help support the neck bolts because the cedar is quite soft.

I read about a Yamaha guitar like this with soft resonant wood between 2 harder wood layers in order to a different sound. I am assuming it will be somewhat like a chambered solid body.

I have EMG active pickups for it. My favourite pickups.

very nice, what wood show did you get the cedar at? And where do you get your QLD maple?

Welcome Guitarcam.

Perry has some nice bit of maple at a good price Dominic I bought 4 light figured ones for about $200. Look forward to the end result.

That RG looks Cool, I'd like to try one some time just for the neck joint.

GuitarCam, I think I know you from the ultimate guitar forums.
