Flushtone Guitarworks Shop Is Done.......
Flushtone Guitarworks Shop Is Done.......
Well mostly..... but certainly operational and I finally have a place to build guitars.......
My apologies for subjecting the forum to so many updates during the building of my shop - after this thread showing you my new digs I won't do it again.
I spent all day building some new benches and they came out great. I just have to add a bottom shelf to the bench that I will use for most of my building. Something that I had always wanted was an island bench for set-up. Once I hang another stinkin light over it and build the super secret guitar vice that David Collins is going to help me with the island bench will be good-to-go.
Here is the main shop:
Here is the outer office/zoot storage area and I finally have a good place to hang my shop guitar:
My bro JJ helped me learn how to french polish and this guitar was built as an experiment to see how light I could build:
Here is the office:
This is where I will put my table saw. I still have to throw up some stinkin dry wall first before moving the saw in place and I have a separate air cleaner for this room too. The outlet is 20 amp:
And here is one of the two benches that I built today and this will be where I will do most of my building:
Woo Hoo I am so very excited to be back in the saddle again - so-to-speak.....
Thanks for looking AND thanks to the ANZLFers who helped me with some very good ideas during the shop construction!!!!! [:Y:] [clap] [clap] [clap] [clap] [clap][/img]

What was on the telly Hesh? Its not Caribou Barbie.....
Mate, you've got 7 necks and 10 bridge blanks on show, but only 5 fretboard blanks......, are you holding out on us? I also noted that you've named you spindle sander "Rigid", do you need to get out more? and the bar fridge, where is the bar fridge?
In all seriousness, Im jealous and look forward to some serious zoot manipulations real soon!

make mine fifths........
Cool, Hesh. Plenty of hiding spots too if people come visit and you feel like making guitars.
Just a suggestion. You only have one layer of board on top of your benches from the looks, it would be a good idea to add another layer. Make it heaps more solid and better for bashing things on etc. Won't bounce as much.
Show us your secret jig thing as soon as done too.
I am very curious

Hey, Heshmeister, no so fast...
Don't you need to put up a wall (and add a door) in front of the hot water heater, water softener - what is all that stuff? Iron filter?
Maybe your dust collection is so good that you won't be putting a fine layer of dust all over those difficult to clean surfaces, so maybe it doesn't matter. I walled off a separate little room for my furnace, water heater, air handler, and sump pump. I figured I could more easily control humidity swings without dealing with that stuff, and I could keep it all clean (especially the furnace!) if it had its own room.
Glad to see you've completed your shop, and I'm anxious to see what will emerge.

Another damn Yank!
Hazzah! Well done my friend, well done. And ahead of schedule too. Good on you Hesh.
I'd have to agree with Dominic as well, at least another layer. On any of the benches that you know are going to get beat up, screw down a layer of Masonite. Its cheap, its smooth and you don't stress about destroying it. You may want to put a panel on the back side as well, to help control the bench's inclination to rack when you push on it.
Looking forward to checking out the shop one of these lifetimes.

Sebastiaan my friend on the telly was Candy Crawley of CNN so you can be sure that it was not a porno...... I think that she is the ugliest woman in America.......sebastiaan56 wrote:What was on the telly Hesh? Its not Caribou Barbie.....

When I first got the spindle sander I was offended at the up and down motion.... Then I got an idea.... I purchased a cheap replacement toilet seat, placed it on the sander's table, took a video of it in operation, and sent it to a few of my pals as a suggestion for what they should do with themselves.....
Mike bro I have to hang the art yet - it includes Jimi of course and at least one semi-naked lady thank you......
Bob bro I really want to build with the AB abd TM that you brought me so don't be surprised if you see that soon. I have a couple of commissions that I plan on starting in January and what they will be wood wise is not yet determined.
Hi Lillian - do you see the Troji parts that you made me on the lower right hand corner of the storage area pic? Many thanks again for those and building the rest of it is on my list of the jigs that I want to complete before 2009.
As for the benches my style of building really does not require a traditional wood working bench so these are fine. Interestingly I used glue and torx connectors and they are rock solid. I also let them settle into the floor before snugging things up so they are absolutely level too.
Dennis bro the utility area is a separate room complete with a 36" door. It's outside of my environmentally controlled shop and office. After I dry wall over the insulation (for dust control and fire resistance) the table saw will go in there. Dust wise I have an air cleaner for that room and an additional Monica (shop-vac) too.
I have never had a table saw before so this is where it will go. I also doubt that I will use it much at all since I learned to build with a band saw only. So it will only get light use, the air cleaner will help, the room is walled off and sealed from the rest of the shop, and I always clean up any mess that I make immediately...... So I think that I will be OK.
Dom my friend good suggestion but I am not a basher.... The other benches that you see have had lots of guitar building use and are fine with the 3/4" MDF tops. Besides I can always flip it over for a clean side or add another layer if I become a basher....
I still have some tweaks to do like building and adding the vice to the island bench, perhaps carpeting this bench too and of course adding stirrups too.....
Thanks everyone!!!!

Hi Hesh
It all looks fantastic and inspriational, let the good times roll. Surley you have some crap to stash in all those open spaces. I've never had a purpose built bench, I just counted mine through out my 3 rooms I've got nine benches and every one is converted out of something else. Very well thought out Hesh, don't become a hermit now.

Looks damn good Hesh. Never apologize for putting up too many pictures. It's been great to see the evolution of your workshop; from bare basement to the new Heshtone creation centre.
I was going to suggest that you get a dunny seat (which it seems you've already got!) to mount on one of the walls as a reminder of your Flushtone beginnings!

Thanks Taff and I can relate. My first bench was a rolling butcher block kitchen cart....... Take a swipe with a plane and the thing was launched into the next room...... Guess my plane was not sharp enough....
Joel that is a GREAT idea and I was already going to purchase two padded toilet seats to line my troji with.....
Well here is the art that I hung so far. These guys are some of my musical heroes:
