I was hoping to have a display there this year, but it wasn't to be... Like Martin, I'll plan for a show in 2017.

Just got back from the MGMF, it was great to meet some of the forum members and some of the builders, some really nice guitars on show. Compared to the last 2 shows this one was packed, heaps of people there. Sorry I didn't get more snaps, was too busy talking. Wayne

The Woodrat came out of hibernation for the MGF....he was pleased to put faces to the names meeting Wayne, Hank, Stu, Jeremy, Allen and David Aumann. A weekend amongst guitars and good company....
Woodrat was last seen leaving Melbourne carrying a piece of antique furniture through airport security.....

Managed to sneak in a visit today and glad I did - well worth the trip.

I was time limited unfortunately, so apologies to those I did not get to catch up with - many of you had better things to be doing chatting with real customers than having me draw your attention away in any case. Good to see a volume of people going through and it was great to catch up with Trevor Gore (and partner), John (aka Woodrat), Perry Ormsby and Rod Octigan, as well as meet a couple of others that I don't believe are on the forum. Some fine work on show, including from our forum members.

For those that could not make it, I did grab a bunch of photos for you. Snapshots only mind you, so can't vouch for the quality!

Actually, I did pretty well walking around and picking timbers used by most. Trevor's guitar on the left in the above pic though certainly threw up some challenges! Bindings, Gidgee - no problem there, Soundboard King Billy - yep, Rosette spalted Blackwood - ok, Neck - Qld Maple - got it... But back and sides? Closest I got was WA - which it was in Curly Wandoo, but then the fretboard... No. Not even close. Granted, it was a fairly plain, hard reddish brown timber so there were realistically many possibilities. In fact, even now it's name has slipped my mind, but lets just say it's first life was as a floorboard! Thanks for the game Trevor and demonstrating that once again, great guitars can be crafted by a wide range of timbers.

Jack is doing some really lovely work that is very recognisable. I truly appreciated his display, not discounting others work on show.

That's it folks. Sorry to anyone I missed, both in meeting or shooting some photos. There were several stands I did not manage to see due to crowds and my limited time pushing me on. I was somehow even too busy inspecting and listening (despite my inadequacies as a player) to the one guitar Mr John Woodrat managed to bring down, that I forget to take a photo of it!

All in all it was a good day and I look forward to participating next time around.

Congrats to the organisers who made it happen.

Can I say Mad skilz,The Craftsmanship on these instruments is with out a doubt some of the best I have seen .I would have liked to be there ( I hate night shift ) glad to see they got the crowds in the door it tells me there are still people who appreciate hand crafted wood at it's finest ,and thanks for the pics ,cheers john.
