First acoustic builds.
Re: First acoustic builds.
Here is an update of the QLD Maple body. I have done black die base then blue over the top. I used water to dilute dies. Next time I will try Metho as the wood swelled a lot more than I anticipated.
Re: First acoustic builds.
I really like that color!

Re: First acoustic builds.
Next time when using water based dye, wet the wood with a wet, but not soaking, rag a few times first. Wait until each 'coat' drys and sand (this gets rid of any grain that's raised because of the water) with 240 grit. Keep the wetting/sanding process going until you don't get any grain raised after a wetting. The wood is good to go for dye thensoulman wrote: I have done black die base then blue over the top. Re: First acoustic builds.
Just noticed the Titebond two in the background, what do you use that for?

Hi Nick.
I've used it to make binding as it has a higher heat tolerance than original. I haven't tried bending the binding I've made yet so we'll see. I've started a dreadnought and will be using it on that.

Hmmm, I wonder if that titebond II will work for rosette's & purflings!

Keep Smiling,

+1 I use Titebond II when making up my own binding/purflings. For gluing in bindings I either use hide glue (first choice) or Titebond I. For rosette glue in where I don't want any risk of swelling I use epoxy glue.soulman wrote:Hi Nick.
